I love a good quilt-a-long and so when Katy posted the Economy Block quilt-a-long on Instagram (search hashtag economyblockalong), I knew I had a new project. I can't seem to get enough of novelty prints. In fact, my bin to keep them in is over flowing and these blocks are a great way to use up some of them. I also love I-spy quilts. They're my go to baby quilt.
It's not hard to see why when you have a model like this.
There are a lot of different sizes out there for the economy blocks, but I went with Rita's 5 inch blocks. I dug deep into the scrap bin and fussy cut over 100 3in. squares.
For 72 squares, it came to about 38x48 and is the perfect size for a crib quilt or floor quilt.
For the backing I used Gina Martin's Wren and Friends chevron & some of the scraps I had left over.
I love a little bit of scrappy business on the back.
I bound it with a matching orange and did a simple quilting along the squares.
I'm super happy with this quilt and excited to start a boy version this week!
This one is listed on Etsy & would make a perfect heirloom quilt for a special little girl!
