I Spy Quilt for Jacob

A few weeks ago I was contacted by a Mama that wanted a quilt for her son Jacob. She told me their family story and I felt immediately blessed and grateful that she was entrusting me with this heirloom. There is a magic in creating something for someone else---something that you know will be loved for years to come. It invigorated me and totally filled my spirit. I hope that when she gets it and shares it with Jacob they feel that this was created with love.

There are 200 hexagons and 400 little triangles in this quilt. My favorite part is finding all the pictures to include. I have more novelty fabric than is probably healthy and found a few key pieces in my mother's collection of fabric too. Some fabric was given to me by a friend's grandmother. You see, there is history and love from other generations of quilters in here too. I'm pretty sure that's all part of the magic and energy that I felt when making this.

I've added a few pieces that I can't share with you either. Reminders of private stories that she was willing to share with me. I hope they bring her joy and comfort.

I used fabric from the borders to create a pieced backing too. It's always so fun to play with stripes!

I can't get enough of polka dots.

As I write this, the quilt is all bundled and heading to it's new home. I've taken the energy felt from this I Spy and am starting a new one for a little girl.
She's got different interests, loves, and a story that I'm using to create a piece just for her.

I can't wait.

Whatever the story, it's a special quilt.
